Chalkboard Makeover

Changing to Blue and Gray

We bought this chalkboard a few years ago when the  colors I used throughout the home were reds.  Now that our color scheme in the house has changed to more whites and light colors. I decided to change and lighten up the chalkboard as well.

Here is how I did my chalkboard makeover.

The chalkboard in its original look.

The Makeover

I painted it all over with a light shade of blue, then I dry brushed it with a light gray. Finally, antiquing it is what really made it a stand out piece to hang on my walls again. It goes great next to our breakfast/coffee bar station!

First step in painting the blue color.

Not only does the new color of the chalkboard tie into our farmhouse style. Throughout our home we have incorporated an industrial look as well. By using different metals and stained woods. The metal brackets on the chalkboard adds to the industrial theme.

Second step was adding dry brushing of the gray color.

Money Saving Tip

There was no need to buy new when I could repurpose what I already have. It’s always so much more fun that way anyhow! It’s an accomplished feeling to see your own work involved, and a bonus when it saves you money!!$$

The last step was brushing on and then wiping off any excess of the antique gel.

The Purpose

We plan to use the chalkboard as a weekly menu, and communication board.  It can also be utilized for motivational purposes, with uplifting quotes and scriptures from the Bible.

The finished work!

I love the makeover, super easy and cheap!
